OneNote, Evernote, WPS: How to Optimise Them on BOOX
Sep 18,2024 | www.boox.com
When using third-party note-taking apps like OneNote, Evernote, and WPS with your Boox device, you might want to make a few improvements to smoothen your experience.
Let’s take OneNote as an example and dive in.
Set App Optimisation as a Shortcut in the Navigation Ball
The first thing you need to do before optimising any app is to configure the navigation ball–open the Navigation Ball app and set “App Optimisation” as one of the buttons.
This way, tapping the button optimises an app without exiting it.
Adjust Color Settings
After you’ve installed OneNote and logged in to your account, you will find that the top bar menu is pale as the background colour is “bleached” when set as '5' under App Optimisation's original settings.
Set the background colour to '0' to make the menu more recognisable.
- Pale menu with Background colour "bleached" when set as '5'
- Increased darkness with Background colour set as '0'
If the icons are hard to see, they need more contrast with the background. To solve this problem, turn off the “Use system display setting” and increase the “Dark Color Enhancement” to your preference. This will give the dark colours more definition and make the icons more recognisable.
- Faded colours under the system display settings
- Darker colours with custom settings
We also suggest increasing the “Light Colour Filter" to improve the contrast further. The greyish colours will become even lighter.

Adjust Scribble and Turn off Touch
Next, open the App Optimisation panel and tap “Scribble". Then, turn on “Handwriting Optimisation”.
Under the “Handwriting Optimisation”, there’s a scroll bar to help you adjust “the time to refresh after lifting the stylus”. It sets how long you want the refresh to take action after you’ve lifted the pen.
If you tend to write longer texts, increase the time. But if you want the handwriting refresh to be more responsive, decrease it.
You can try the different time settings and find your preferred one.
Another important tip is to turn off Hand Touch Recognition.
Turning it off won't mess up your notes when you put your hand on OneNote and other third-party note-taking apps when they try to recognise your stylus and your hand.
To deactivate, swipe down to call out the menu and press the hand icon.
